Inside Hangzhou's Unitree Robotics: Where Embodied AI Meets the Real World
On July 17, 2026 — the opening day of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2026) in Shanghai — our team had the privilege of visiting Unitree Robotics (Unitree Robotics) at its headquarters in Hangzhou's Binjiang district, just a short drive from our own office.
As a fellow Hangzhou-based enterprise and one of the celebrated "Hangzhou Six Dragons", Unitree has captured global attention with its pioneering work in quadrupedal and humanoid robots. This visit offered us a firsthand look at how embodied AI is moving from the lab into real-world applications — with implications that extend into healthcare, logistics, and beyond.
The Headquarters: A Statement in Glass and Aluminum
Unitree's twin-arc headquarters makes an immediate impression. The sweeping curved facade — white aluminum panels alternating with dark blue glass curtain walls — rises dramatically against the summer sky. The bold "UNITREE Unitree" signage at ground level confirms you've arrived at one of China's most closely watched robotics companies. The architecture itself speaks the same design language as the robots inside: clean, precise, and unmistakably futuristic.

The Exhibition Hall: A Full Robotics Ecosystem
Stepping inside, we entered a spacious exhibition hall buzzing with approximately 30 visitors. A giant LED screen displayed "WELCOME — UNITREE Unitree" against alpine scenery. The space was organized into distinct zones, each demonstrating a different facet of Unitree's technology stack — from quadrupedal robot dogs to full-sized humanoids, from industrial sorting systems to VR-teleoperated kitchen robots.

The Boxing Ring: Robots That Can Take a Hit
The most eye-catching exhibit was a mini boxing ring in the center of the hall. Two silver-gray bipedal humanoid robots faced off in a red-versus-blue matchup — one standing tall in a striking pose with red gloves and headgear, the other sprawled on the canvas in a dramatic KO pose. Red corner posts bore the UNITREE brand logo.
This wasn't just entertainment. The boxing demonstration showcased the robots' dynamic balance, joint torque output, and collision recovery — the same capabilities required for operating safely in unpredictable human environments. A robot that can get knocked down and stand back up is a robot that can work alongside people.

Humanoid in Action: VR-Teleoperated Kitchen Robot
In another area, a silver-white bipedal humanoid stood beside a mock kitchen island, its right arm extended toward a stainless-steel sink filled with fresh vegetables and fruit. A young operator wearing a white VR headset controlled the robot remotely, demonstrating fine manipulation capabilities — grasping produce, handling delicate objects.
About 10 visitors gathered behind a retractable barrier, phones raised to capture the moment. The background panels reading "Industrial Sorting" and "Material Handling & Logistics" stood in interesting contrast with the domestic kitchen scene — a vivid reminder that these robots are being designed for both factory floors and everyday life.

Industrial Sorting: AGVs + Robotic Arms
The "Industrial Sorting" zone presented Unitree's vision for smart manufacturing. A large display showed a six-axis robotic arm precisely picking and placing components — gears, seals, circular parts — on a conveyor belt. Below the screen, a white AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) sat on display, with wooden pallets and cardboard boxes marked with international shipping symbols nearby.
This exhibit showcased an end-to-end intelligent automation chain: inspection, transport, sorting, and manipulation — the kind of system that could transform warehousing, logistics, and potentially medical device manufacturing.

The Business Conversation: Embodied Intelligence as Industry Pioneer
The visit concluded in a sleek conference room where a large screen displayed Unitree's core brand positioning: "Embodied Intelligent Robot — Industry Pioneer" with the definition: "An intelligent form that relies on a physical body, develops through real-time interaction with the physical world, and achieves autonomous behavior and adaptive capability."
On the meeting table sat bottles of purified water and product brochures — prominently featuring the UNITREE B2-W industrial-grade quadruped robot — alongside a silver pen and notepad. A substantive conversation about the commercialization of embodied intelligence had clearly just taken place.

Unitree in 2026: A Year of Acceleration
Our visit coincided with several major milestones for Unitree:
- July 16, 2026: Unitree opened its Embodied Intelligence Experience Store — Asia's first flagship at Jiuguang Department Store on Nanjing West Road, Shanghai, marking a strategic move from B2B into consumer-facing retail.
- July 17, 2026 (today): At WAIC 2026 in Shanghai, Unitree unveiled the GD01 — the world's first rideable transforming mecha, capable of switching between humanoid and quadrupedal forms. Priced at approximately ¥3.9 million (USD ~$537,000).
- January 2026: CES 2026 in Las Vegas — Unitree showcased two humanoid robot models, with the G1 priced at approximately $16,000 (¥85,000).
- March 2026: Participated in the Beijing AI Expo, expanding industrial partnerships.
Why This Matters for Wehere Medical
As a medical device company, why visit a robotics firm? Because the convergence of embodied AI, precision manipulation, and autonomous systems is set to reshape healthcare — from surgical assistance and rehabilitation robotics to automated logistics in hospital supply chains and sterile manufacturing environments.
Unitree's robots demonstrated capabilities — dynamic balance, fine motor control, VR teleoperation, industrial-grade reliability — that have direct relevance to medical applications. The same precision that allows a robot to pick up a lemon without crushing it could one day assist in delicate medical procedures. The same AGV systems that move pallets in a warehouse could transport sterile supplies through hospital corridors.
Our visit was both inspiring and thought-provoking. As two Hangzhou-born companies — one in medical devices, one in robotics — we share a common belief: technology earns its value when it serves real human needs.
